Week 22 of Pregnancy

At 22 weeks pregnancy your babies’ fetal age is 20 weeks. The second trimester is a time of rapid growth and changes however this part of the pregnancy is often one of the most comfortable times. You should be feeling overall pretty good. If you’re suffering from lower back pain, this is normal and you should ensure you are wearing low healed shoes.

Changes in your body at Week 22 of Pregnancy

You should have definitely lost your normal waistline by this week but should still be able to bend over and sit comfortably. Your uterus is now about 3cm above your bellybutton now and you might notice a shift in your enter of gravity.

Changes you may experience during the 22nd week of pregnancy include:

  • You may notice that you are also hungrier
  • You might notice an increased sensitivity to your pelvic floor due to increased blood supply
  • Stretch marks may begin to appear in some women
  • Lower back pain might be evident due to hormonal changes and weight gain
  • Some woman’s belly button starts to poke out around this time

Baby's Development at Week 22 of Pregnancy - Baby size: 28cm

Some typical developments which occur during the 22th week of pregnancy are:

  • Baby’s skin is beginning to thicken
  • Baby has sweat glands
  • Baby reacts to loud sounds
  • Baby has regular sleeping and waking pattern
  • Mother’s movements can wake baby
  • Fingernails will be fully formed but continuing to grow
  • Weekly weight gain has increased to around 70 grams
  • Baby's eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed
