Week 13 of Pregnancy

Week 13 is the week many women start to look pregnant due to you having a pregnancy “bump”. 

Changes in your body at Week 13 of Pregnancy


You should start to feel better as moodiness and sickness start to subside.

Common body changes you may notice at 13 weeks pregnant include:

  • Abdominal pain could occur due to the ligaments that hold your uterus stretch.
  • Feeling faint when standing or missing a meal

Baby's Development at Week 13 of Pregnancy - Baby size: 12.0cm

The baby weighs just over 30 grams and measure almost 3 inches long. Your baby can now flex its arms and legs and pit is thumb in his or her mouth.  The foetal bones are growing rapidly and the limbs are lengthening. Your baby's genital swelling becomes a penis or clitoris. Ankles and wrists are formed and some hair may be starting to grow. 

Below are typical developments which occur during the 13th week of pregnancy:

  • Baby’s fingernails appear
  • Baby's neck has become longer
  • Final functioning form of the trachea, lungs, stomach, liver, pancreas, and intestines.
  • Fingerprints and footprints start to develop and become visible
  • All tooth buds appear for each of the 20 baby teeth
  • Vocal cord formation develops
  • The movement of eyes (closer together) and the ears (to a normal position)
  • Visible ribs
