First Symptom of Pregnancy

The first symptoms of pregnancy could be an exciting moment for expectant mothers. Expectant mothers bodies are going through an amazing transformation and knowing what to expect during the first months can help you to face the future with confidence.

Pregnancy can leave your emotions in a whirlwind of change. You may feel delighted at one moment and anxious, exhilarated and exhausted the next. This could be emotionally challenging to a new expectant mom and could add emotional stress.

This emotional stress is normal; it is even natural to worry about the baby's health. Is the baby progressing through each stage? Is the baby gaining the right amount of pounds or is the baby growing too large. This is just the natural progression of an initial pregnancy.

Within two weeks of conception, hormones trigger your body to begin nourishing the baby — even before tests and a physical exam can confirm the pregnancy. Here are some common physical changes you may notice early on.

Bouts of nausea. Many women have queasiness, nausea or vomiting in early pregnancy — probably due to normal hormonal changes.

To help relieve this symptom eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. Try ginger ale or ginger tea. Suck on hard candy like a jawbreaker. Avoid foods that make your nausea worse. This could be an all day affair as nausea tends to be worse in the morning, but it can last all day.

Increase sensitivity in your breast. Increased hormone production may make your breasts unusually sensitive. Your breasts will probably feel fuller and heavier as your breast prepare for the coming addition. Wearing a more supportive bra may help to relieve some of the sensitivity.

Dizziness. To prevent mild, occasional dizziness, avoid extended standing periods. Be sure to rise to your feet slowly after lying or sitting down. Keep snacks close by, snacks help to keep blood sugar up. Prime snacks include dried fruit or low-fat yogurt. If you start to feel dizzy while you're driving, pull over. If you're standing when dizziness hits, sit or lie down. If dizziness proceeds over a extended time period proceed to consult your physician.

Unusual fatigue. You may feel tired as your body produces more blood and prepares to support the pregnancy. Your heart will pump faster and harder, and your pulse will quicken. Intense, changeable emotions also may take a toll on your energy level.

If you're fatigued, rest as much as you can. Make sure you're getting enough iron and protein. Include physical activity in your daily routine, such as a brisk walk.

Increased urination. As your uterus starts presses on your bladder during the first few months of pregnancy you may have to urinate more often. That said pressure may also cause you to leak urine when coughing, sneezing or laughing.

If this symptom is present there is a chance that a urinary tract infection could occur. In order to help prevent urinary tract infections, urinate as often and whenever you feel the need to. If you're losing sleep due to middle-of-the-night bathroom trips, drink less fluid in the evening. Panty liners may help you feel more secure if your worried about leaking through the night.
