Let Your Pregnancy And Diet Compliment Each Other

When it comes to pregnancy and diet, the commonest question is, “Do you really need to eat for two?” The answer is a stunning “No!” You need just 300 calories extra everyday during pregnancy. And this amounts to a tuna sandwich or two and half cups low-fat milk!

So, if you have been taking large helpings of food during your meals, you are doing no good to either your baby or yourself. On the contrary, you are paving a way for gaining unnecessary weight that might give rise to pregnancy complications.

Be smart with regards to your diet during pregnancy. Instead of extra servings during meals, why not have a couple of whole-wheat toast slices or a glass of orange juice between meals? This is not only nutritious, but also fills up the calorie requirement, without making you gain unnecessary pounds.

List Of Foods For Healthy Diet During Pregnancy

About 9 or more servings of cereals, breads, and grains. Out of them, at least 4 servings should be of whole grain food.

About 7 or more servings of vegetables and fruits. A couple of them should be loaded with vitamin A and C.

A minimum of 3 servings of milk as well as milk products.

A minimum of 3 servings of protein such as nuts, peas, and dried beans.

Exceptional Cases

Now, there are certain conditions in which the above list may not be recommended. They are:

If you are excessively overweight, you might need to remove certain foods or servings of them from your diet for pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor, who will give you necessary guidelines regarding diet during pregnancy period.

If you are excessively underweight, you may need to add more servings of food in your daily diet for pregnancy.

If you are in your teens, your body will have more than average nutritional needs, as it’s still growing. Again, your doctor knows best about teen pregnancy and what food should be eaten during that time.

If you are expecting twins or multiples, you will need extra nutrition.

If you are diabetic, you will have to keep a check on your blood sugar levels regularly during pregnancy. Your diet plan should be chalked out under the supervision of your doctor.

In case you develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy, again, you need to be careful about your pregnancy nutritional requirements.
