5 Easy Ways To Avoid a Breast Feeding Problem
To avoid almost any breastfeeding problem, a few critical rules should be followed:
1. Avoid Using Soap On Nipples.
This can dry them out and potentially cause cracking. (Not a fun thing!)
2. Wear a Good Nursing Bra.
A proper fitting nursing bra can make all the difference. Most department stores or maternity stores can help in finding one with the best fit. Also, underwire bras can sometimes cause mastitis, a very painful breast feeding problem indeed.
3. Perfect a Proper Latch-On.
Poor latching on can cause nipple pain, cracked nipples, low weight gain, and poor milk delivery to the baby. Practice makes perfect.
4. Let The Girls Breathe!
I know it can be impractical at times, but, exposing your nipples to air as often as possible, especially after breastfeeding will help to avoid fun breastfeeding problems like yeast infections.
5. Find a Good Breastfeeding Position.
Finding a comfortable, successful breastfeeding position can help avoid backache, sore nipples, and help your baby stay on long enough to empty the breast - crucial for avoiding clogged milk ducts.
If you can follow these five guidelines: no soap on nipples, good nursing bra, practice proper latch techniques, expose nipples to air, and finding a good position, you will be on your way to breastfeeding success.
